Overview: It's About Putting Bayless First
After recommendations from the Bayless Community Facilities Advisory Committee and the Bayless School District Administration, the Bayless Board of Education unanimously voted to place a NO TAX INCREASE bond issue on the April 2, 2019, election ballot. The Board placed Propositions 1 on the ballot because it has determined the District needs additional funds to provide eliminate overcrowding in the High School and Junior High School and provide space necessary to remain a top performing school district.
Importantly, Proposition 1 allows Bayless to improve safety and security in our schools. Bayless is seeking authority to issue $7.3 million in bonds over the next eight years with no tax increase to our residents. Bayless will use these bonds to improve buildings across the entire campus and create new additional spaces to serve our Junior High School and High School students. Current interest rates, and the bonding capacity of the District, make this an especially wise time to issue bonds.

Introducing Proposition 1
The primary focus of Proposition 1 is to alleviate overcrowding in our High School and Junior High School by expanding the Junior High School Building. Proposition 1 also addresses major needed infrastructure improvements to our facilities, which will improve safety, security and convenience for the increasing number of students and community members we serve now and expect to serve in the future. These improvements will result in cost-saving efficiencies. Proposition 1 will provide:
- 18 new educational spaces and classrooms for Bayless Junior High
- A cafeteria in the junior high building. Currently, Bayless Junior High students eat in the high school’s cafeteria, which is not large enough to serve all students in the time needed. Due to this condition, Junior High students begin lunch as early as 10:00 AM.
- Improved security, safety and convenience by consolidating and protecting entrances at Bayless High School and Junior High. By adding a library, cafeteria and 18 classrooms to the Junior High School, we can eliminate the need for Junior High students to travel outside to Bayless High School for classes, library services and cafeteria use.
- Scheduled maintenance and renovation work throughout district facilities.
